Compassion Ministry

October/November 2011

Leaves are falling, the air is crisp in the mornings and evenings, and daylight hours are getting shorter. It must be fall. The arrival of fall brings exciting developments for Compassion Ministry:

Hospitality House Homeless Shelter

  • We’ve transitioned from providing forty “to go” meals three days a week to providing hot lunch for forty guests on the first, fourth and fifth Sundays of each month. We prepare lunch here in our kitchen before taking and serving it at the Welcome Center between the hours of 12:45 and 3pm. Cissy is coordinating these lunches and signup sheets are on the small Compassion Ministry board in the foyer.
  • We also serve meals twice each month at Sierra Presbyterian church. These meals are organized by Tom Cooper, and take place on the 2nd Wednesday of each month for lunch, and the 3rd Thursday of each month for dinner.
  • Since the shelter does not have a facility large enough to provide overnight accommodations, area churches have stepped up to provide overnight shelter, hot meals each evening, and “to go” breakfasts each morning. ALCC is once again partnering with Sierra Presbyterian to provide and serve one dinner each month at their facility. These dinners are being coordinated by Tom Cooper and signup sheets are available.
  • Other needs at Hospitality House: men’s and women’s jackets and coats (good condition only, please), brand new warm weather socks, small cans of shaving cream, disposable razors, white bath towels, and white wash cloths. Please see Cissy Murphy if you have items to donate.

Community Serve Day

  • We are in the process of planning a community serve day for the spring. If you have any ideas regarding possible service projects, please see Cissy Murphy or one of our elders.
